Tomato Has A Good Effect of Coating Fertilizer at Fruiting Stage

Recently, when the reporter talked with Fan Zhiguo, a vegetable farmer in Heguan Town, Qingzhou City, about topdressing, he told the reporter that from the previous year, he packed fertilizer for tomatoes every year during the tomato fruiting period, and the effect was very good.

So, what's so good about tomato fertilizer? Let's listen to Fan Zhiguo's opinions. Fan Zhiguo said that it is easy to grow adventitious roots at the stem base of tomatoes, but they can't be rooted down because they are not buried by soil or the surface soil is too dry. After the tomatoes are coated with fertilizer, the soil just wraps up the stem base. With the application of fertilizer, the adventitious roots can grow better and the plants will be more robust. Especially in the middle and late stages of tomato growth, the lower part of tomato stems and vines will stick to the ground after falling, so it is the best time to pack fertilizer. The buried stems and vines will give off a large number of adventitious roots, so as to supply the plants with sufficient nutrition and avoid premature senescence in the middle and late stages.

After listening to Fan Zhiguo's introduction, it's really a good choice to pack fertilizer in tomato fruiting period. So, what's the specific way to fertilize tomatoes? According to Fan Zhiguo, the method of packing fertilizer is very simple, that is, spreading fertilizer along the planting lines of plants, paying attention to not spreading fertilizer too intensively, and avoiding spreading fertilizer in fixed positions. The average dosage is 30 grams per plant. After sprinkling, cover it tightly with soil, and then follow up with water. It is advisable to pay attention to the watering amount when the water surface overflows two thirds of the fertilizer-covered ridge, so as to avoid too little watering amount, which will cause the fertilizer in the soil difficult to dissolve and fail to achieve the desired effect.

As for the types of fertilizers selected, Fan Zhiguo said that humic acid, amino acid and bio-fungi fertilizers which are less irritating to vegetable roots are the best, among which bio-fertilizer is the optimal choice. When choosing chemical fertilizers, we must not choose fertilizers with too high nitrogen content as it has great irritation to the root system and easily causes injury to adventitious roots. Besides, there is no need to apply too much nitrogen in tomato fruit bearing period, so it is advisable to choose high potassium compound fertilizer.

"It should be noted that the depth of buried soil should not be too shallow. The appropriate thickness of soil buried in fertilizer is 5-10 cm. In addition, in winter, because most of the ground is covered with plastic film, after uncovering the plastic film, it is necessary to cover it back in time to avoid ground temperature reduction. " Fan Zhiguo stressed.
