Four Notes on Inter-planting Tomatoes in Deep Winter

Four Notes on Inter-planting Tomatoes in Deep Winter

Inter-cropping, namely sowing (planting) the next crop in advance when the previous crop has not been harvested, aims to go on the market as soon as possible and sell at a higher price. During the recent investigation, it was found that there were some problems in the management of inter-planting tomatoes by vegetable farmers, which affected the exertion of their advantages. It is suggested that vegetable farmers interplant tomatoes in deep winter as per the following four things.

First, pay attention not to be too early in interplanting time. In some shed vegetable planting villages in Yuncheng, we can see that the height of the upper tomatoes plants of the sheds which have been interplanted with the upper tomatoes are above 1.8 meters. Although the leaves in the middle and lower parts of the plants are basically removed, there are still two ears of fruit in the upper part that have not been picked, and it takes about 25 days to be pulled out of the garden. In this way, the upper tomatoes have shade effect on the lower tomatoes. In addition, the light in winter is weak and the time is short. Therefore, the photosynthetic capacity of the lower tomatoes is poor, and the carbohydrate accumulation is small, which shows that the stem is thin and vigorous, not conducive for strong seedlings.

Second, pay attention to soil preparation and fertilization before interplanting. Many vegetable farmers are so afraid of trouble that plant the lower tomatoes seedlings directly between two upper tomatoes without soil preparation and fertilization. Doing so is not conducive to slow seedling and strong seedling. Without soil preparation and fertilization, soil compaction and fertility decline will affect the root development and nutrient demand of the lower tomatoes in the whole growth period. Production suggestion: firstly, at the outer side of the upper tomatoes row, close to the operation row, open a small ditch with iron pestle, which is about 20 cm deep and 25 cm wide, then apply fermented soybean pulp in the ditch, the amount of which is about 130 kg per mu, then use the soil in the operation row to cover them into a ridge with a height of about 15 cm, and finally plant tomatoes on the ridge.

Third, pay special attention to the happening of diseases after interplanting. In production, vegetable farmers often neglect the management of tomatoes diseases in the later stage, which not only causes serious disease of the upper crop of vegetables, but also infects the lower crop of intercropped tomatoes, such as gray mold and leaf mold. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent and control the diseases of the upper tomatoes in time, and especially prevent the morbidity of the lower tomatoes.

Fourth, pay attention to early mulching. In deep winter, after interplanting the upper tomatoes, it is in a low temperature and weak light environment, so it is necessary to cover the plastic film as early as possible to raise the ground temperature, keeping the soil humidity and promoting the slow seedling.
